Default Difference Between 2.5" & 3" Exhausts?

Looking to get an Afterburner 3" Catback from Scoobyworld but at first i was gonna get the Vortex backbox with a De-Cat package, What's the differences in the sizes? What's my best option?

Cheers

3" is better for people chasing huge horsepower, don't worry about it !

Best exhaust out of the 2 for loudness/deep burble and maybe a little bhp?

About 1/2 inch

It would need to be a full 3 inch system to see any benefit I would have thought.

U beat me to that dynamix
Im running a standard PPP RB5 and am going full 3" seeing as i am changing the exhaust. I have no plans for massive power but would kick myself if i was told in 18 months that my exhaust was causing a restriction. It can not do any harm to go 3" can it?

I was told that unless you're aiming for 350bhp+, that you'll end up losing low/midrange torque and power with a 3" system

No idea how true it is though, I haven't been able to test it.

I have a HKS super drager 3" straight through and i assure you there was no power loss on my motor.

But then again it was mapped 2 months after, to truly benefit from the mods.

So.... by the sounds of things i don't really need to get a Afterburner 3" Catback seen as i'm not really looking to remap my scooby.

I understood that a 2.5" is good for 360bhp. Anything over and you need a 3" exhaust. I have a 3" revolution system. It's no noisier than my old 2.5" system.

If we're talking about from the turbo back, then going bigger has no performance disadvantages at all. The trade-off is of course the extra noise and in some cases, weight of the system. But performance wise, bigger is better from the turbo back.

Thats what well all said when we bought a scooby
make more sense to go 3" , then when the modding bug takes over your exhaust is already sorted

i got the full 3" afterburner r system including decat downpipe from scoobyworld, sounds awesome

Doesn't the catback couple at 2.5" though ? you aren't buying any mod advantage in advance as you won't be able to fit a full 3" system. If you are buying 3" for performance do it properly turbo back or for better burble get a NurSpec S or similar which has the 3" back box pipe connecting at 2.5" but benefits from a deeper burble from the 3".

Ive just got my 3" decat downpipe fitted to day from exhaustsuk, already had corba 3" bore with 4.5tail system and before i have the decat down, it sound nice, but sound a hell of alot nicer now lol,

Before i got all that i only had the 2.5" bore with center decat and magnex back box, yep sound nice under load but you could not hear it while driving slow, since having the full 3" fitted the car feels alot stronger while driving,

Does anyone actually do a sports cat downpipe that's 3", opposed to narrowing down to 2.5"

Was looking for one last month actually. Found this

ExhaustsUK: Suppliers of Cobra Sport Performance Exhausts (see SU20 under Direct Fit|Subaru and down the page)

But never inquired further. Just went for a 3" decat in the end

I have a Cobra 3" system and love it (mated to a 3" twin divorced-port decat downpipe). Makes a fantastic deep growl, overlaid by the flat-4's # dugga dugga # burble - but without being stupidly over the top.

The straight-exit 4" rolled-in tail isn't stupidly sized either, and looks like a 22B's, or a slightly larger Classic STi's, so is in keeping with the OEM pattina. Also, the resonator box is all but the same diameter as the tailpipe, so it looks like a straight-through item - really mean (I hate ugly oval resonators, lol).

Finally, they are good value for money... I won mine on eBay, a brand new system (centre section and back box) at £113 !!!.

Does this look good value for money: Ebay # 350105023129

Wouldn't bother with ebay for exhausts - too much of a lottery and some that simply don't fit right. Do some research on here.

PS - I have a 2.5" Ninja 100 cell sports cat downpipe for sale - £150

So a 2,5" decat system would not be good for anything above 400bhp?
Is this the truth, please let me know!

Most 3" cat back systems do have a reduced flange to mate to the OEM downpipe's 2.5" flange, by employing the standard fitment wire-wool 'donut' cone gasket.

However, if the flange doesn't reduce, i.e. is still at 3", then I think it will still bolt up to the d/p, but you'd have to use a conventional 3" flat 'diamond' shaped gasket instead.

I'm sure a 2.5" system will work just fine, it's just whether a 3" exhaust will work better.

I don't know of anyone that has done back to back trials [and I have kept this sort of topic under review as my BHP has edged towards 400 and I still have the (albeit decatted) PPP system].

Something to think about, a decent, well designed 2.5" system will perform much better than a poorly designed 3" system..

Basically, you get what you pay for.
