ok, someone tried to push the ariel down when it was fully out, now it doesnt retract. you can manually with force push it in and out a bit, but doesnt do it automatically.
the motor still seems to be working as there a lot of noise coming from the ariel when i turn on or turn off the stereo
can someone suggest a way of fixing / troubleshooting this.
at worse can do i need a whole new ariel?
if that is the case how do you fit it and keep it watertight?
thanks
david

hi to be honest with you these sort of unit are not repairable easily the time it would take you to atempt to strip the unit just wouldn,t be worth the hastle as if you found the broken part i dare say u wouldnt be able to get the spares. you would be better off trying to pick a 2nd hand unit up or a new 1

I stripped mine down when it wouldnt retract and rebuilt it. Found the spring to be snapped, so cut one coil off and built it back up. 6 months later its still working fine! Take it apart and investigate, the problem might be obvious and what have you got to loose?

To add - To take the unit out you need to gently tap the chrome part on the outside anti clockwise but be very carefull not to slip and scratch the paint. You then need to remove the bootlining near the jack to reveal the nuts holding the ariel in. There is a tube on the bottom of the ariel, make sure you direct this back where you found it or water will collect in the jack area. HTH
