hi all, i had a ninja back box and centre pipe fitted a day b4 the mcrae gathering and am v pleased with the rumble although in the last few days ive noticed its started 'popping' and 'banging' for the want of a better word, when accelerating and changing gear its a loud 'bang' like back fire kinda noise, is there anything i should have to worry about as like i said its only just started??? + im a newbie to scoobies, any info or reassurance would b great, oh and im running it on tesco 99, 05 STi type uk, no other mods.

is there a different ecu in it?? the simtek ecu has antilag that will cause popping and banging i might be wrong though

the car is 100% standard to my knowledge just the back box and pipe.
the noise is wicked but as im not too good with the mechanics of the car i thought id ask the EXPERTS on here, b4 i do some damage.

 

no problem at all myn does it more with the cold moist air that weve got lately no problem mate just enjoy

welcolme to the popping and banging club

 

mine started to bang and pop after I fitted my decat system and vortex back box, then after I fitted my front mount it got more severe but since having my car remapped it has not done it. I asked why this was and was told the banging and popping was due to the fuel air ratio not being exactly right or something to that effect

 

its a good thing buddy let it pop and bag mate

 

Mine only does it when slowing down in 2nd or 3rd gear off throttle. Like Mad Max's V8!

 

the last bit while acurate will prob get a few people panicing cos of talk of AFR lol, they dont need to worry.

all the poping, banging and more than likley flame's is just unburnt fuel in the exhaust that the cat would have normaly contained, nothing to worry about and alot of folks, like me, have extra put in when they have it mapped

 

This is perfectly normal and nothing to worry about mate

 

I just have to slightly take my foot off the accelerator and mine pops and bangs for fun, I get a bit worried if plod is behind incase it throws some flames out!

 

I know what you mean,mine always does it at the wrong moment!

 

mine does it when pulling away through 1st and 2nd just running rich which is much better than lean
