Airlock or Head Gasket??
Hi all,
After getting a new short engine fitted to my 06 STi at a local dealers 1400 miles ago, my car seems to have developed what i think may be airlock?
When i start it up in the morning, you can hear what sounds like water circulating behind the glovebox. You can hear this when when u rev the engine slightly when moving off, and it sounds like it moves around under stopping as well. After 2 mins of car being started however the noise is gone.
A week after hearing this noise, and after the car slightly overheating after a long-run, I took the car back to the dealers. They bled the car, and said they couldn't find anymore air in system. The Car still has the noise, but it hasn't overheated in the past 2 weeks since then. The heater in the car also works fine.
Any help, much appreciated....
Cheers,
Ricky

You could drain and fill the system yourslef to illiminate an air lock problem. Its realy easy...even i can do it. I did it first time, no air locks no problems.
Run engine and set heater to full hot, full speed, cabin blowers.
Stop engine.
When the coolant system is coolish remove the bottom rad hose. Let the coolant drain out. It may take a little while so make a brew.
Refit the bottom hose.
Remove the top rad hose.
Fill the rad with 50/50 coolant/water VERY SLOWLY
Fill the engine block with coolant/water VERY SLOWLEY.
Fit top rad hose.
Fill header tank to left of engine (not sue if its in the same place on newage cars) with coolant/water VERY SLOWLEY. You will hear it burp
Fill expansin bottle by right inner wing (not sue if its in the same place on newage cars) with coolant upto full mark.
Run engine with header tank cap off for a few minutes and top up with coolant as necessary.
When the coolant begins to overflow put the cap on.
Run engine upto temp. Keep an eye on temp gauge.
Turn engine off. Let it cool down. Check header tank and expansion bottle levels again.
Job done.
