Hi all,

Just got my scoob at the ned of last year. It was 1st registered in Dec 97. Is there any pretty obvious way to tell whether it's a MY97 or MY98.
All help greatly appreciated.

Look at the main plate in the engine bay this will have all sorts of numbers in it. Engine number - VIN number ect.

Look at the model number (example of = GC8D0AA)

Sept 96 -97 Have a 'D' after GC8
GC8D0AA

Sept 97 -98 have a 'E' after GC8
GC8E0AA

This applies to WRX imports. Is your car a WRX?
These numbers may also apply to UK subaru's. A UK owner would need to confirm this as I don't know

The model number on that plate will tell you. If it is different there will be a set pattern of numbers that will correlate to the year.

Has it got a stowage box on top of the dash in the centre of the car? with the clock behind.(Same as Forrester) If so it is a MY98 if not it is a MY97 with the clock by the radio.

Cheers for that. I'll have a look. The car is a UK 2L Sport. Can't afford the insurance on a WRX. Mores the pity.
