Default Intake temps

I am looking at measuring intake temps - my 2 options are:

A cheap set up off ebay, drill and bond in to front mount pipe near throttle body
Digital Thermometer With Metre Long Lead UK Seller on eBay, also, Weather Devices, Gadgets, Consumer Electronics (end time 13-Nov-08 19:39:49 GMT)

or using the probe that was fitted to work with my simtek ecu and take reading off a lappy. The software is just over £100.

Would the cheap option be ok or should I spend a bit and get the software

Maplin do a version too. You need a good refresh rate to get any accuracy.

They do give a good indication, I personally use a K type thermocouple and reader.
Its very similar to this setup
DM 6802B Thermometer K-type thermocouple on eBay, also Thermometers, Test Measurement Equipment, Electrical Test Equipment, Business, Office Industrial (end time 11-Nov-08 04:11:56 GMT)

The cables are cheap and if you wanted you could run a couple in at various points. ie. before and after you I/C
