Default Need a remap on a MY98 UK Turbo

I recieved the following info from a local Scooby owner:

"I've changed the turbo, injectors, fuel pump, headers, up-pipe, downpipe, centre section, backbox, re-circ dump valve and fitted an induction kit and Fuel Pressure Regulator.

My car is a phase 1.5 1998 uk turbo. Turbo is a VF24 and the injectors are now 440s instead of 380s and the fuel pump is a Walbro 255 and I'm running no cats."

I believe that he needs a remap on the car but 2 LOCAL SUBARU TUNERS say the car is fine as it is and need no tuning. Rolling Road tuner says "OK up to 5000rpm, missing and overfuelling from there" (on OE regulator)

What is the general concensus? I have my opinion but I'm happy (and I'm sure he will be too!) to be proven wrong.

Russell

I think with all those changes to his car he would be very well advised to have a remap. The standard car's ECU parameters will be very different. Maybe he could consider an APEXI Power FC and a remap. Not only will it give peace of mind, but also it will allow the car to run optimally and give safe, reliable power.

agree, remap before it goes pop,you will need aftermarket ecu apexi powerfc or simtek, then a good mapper to get the best out of those mods.

who ever the tuner is is giving you very dodgy advice indeed, Definatly needs a remp, i would drive it as little as possible and if you do keep it below 3k revs and dont let it come on boost, the fueling will prob be all over the place.

p.s. if it was my car i wouldn't have had it all fitted by the side of the RR then straight onto dyno for mapping.

just out of interest who were the tuners? pm me if you'd prefer.

Don't want to name and shame on here tbh, m8 it's not professional - or my place to do so - but I will PM you later with their details.

If the person who owns the car wants to come on here and "name and shame" then they have every right. I, however, don't.

OK, I'll fess up, it's me. I appreciate the input from all you guys and would rather take your advice than from so called experts who are only after the cash for rebuilding my engine, I knew the car would need a remap, but on the advice I recieved earlier in the year from the 2 local tuners decided it could wait. Point of view is now drastically changed. Looks like I'll not be going back to KEMNAY or ELLON for advice.

Cheers, STU

Default Update

Just had the car run again on the rollers for a charity event, mainly because I wanted another figure for comparison, and wasn't too bothered about it going pop.

Made another 250bhp run so it's consistant, went through the graphs with the operator and was shown comparisons between mine and other Imprezas, not running any more rich than any other scooby there on the day, spools nice and holds boost well. I'd obviously benefit form a remap but being busy with the amount of cars the operator wasn't able to talk about it then but will be going back to see him soon.
