The apeci ecu is specific to the car, therefore you do not need to tell it what car it is in like the HKS Con Pro ecu's.
Infact the Apexi ecus only come in a few versions and they're pre 96, 97 to 98, then upto 00. I could be wrong but again these are specific to each version due to the amount of plugs on the original ECU's.
Regards to resetting it i don't know, i know on the commander unit for the ECu there is a reset back to factory defaults but have never tried it on mine. Jolly Green Monster (simon), Andy F, Bob i.e. the Mappers are probably the best people to ask regards to this.

Oh right. Don't quote me on this - as I'm not 100% certain - but I'm sure Andy F told me the base maps werent too good on the Apexi. In fact I don't think there are even any base maps on it for UK cars(although you havn't said if yours is an import or not).
He used a base map that he had on his laptop for a Terzo that he'd mapped before which had similar mods. Ok to get it running and start mapping, but I'm not sure if it'll be totally safe for driving to get it done.
Again, I could be wrong. But I'd want to be on the safe side if I were you.

Mike you are correct the standard map does run rich but it also runs quite advanced ignition timing, therefore running it with octane booster to stop it from detting.
I did run around on the base map for a while but always ran octane booster with optimax (that long ago lol) and did not have any issues but I am not advocating anyone else try the same.

Lol Banny go to sleep.
I actually ran mine on the base map for a week and all seemed ok, but i did not hammer it (ok i lie just a little ) and used Vpower no octane booster. Infact my mapped 6k ecu with a daughterboard runs way richer than the APexi base (as i didn;t have to wear my vapour mask ). Just my 2pence;s worth of observation.
Good Luck

i have only seen the 97-98 base map
but it runs rich as hell at the top end and runs some aggressive ignition timings
if the mapped ecu has the same injectors and maf etc etc as your car, i would just leave it alone and drive gently till you have it looked at
if the mapped ecu is setup for different injectors and stuff it will run like a bag of **** and reseting back to the base map would be a better idea
if you reset it back, take out about 5/6 degrees timing and keep it off boost for safety until you get it looked at.
i have just started teaching myself how to map, and have done 2 engines now
my old 2.0 and my new 2.5 the 2.5 is driving sweet as a nut
