Default Need more power (bugeye WRX PPP)

Having been disappointed with the performance of our recently bought bugeye WRX PPP, i have been planning the next stage of mods in the quest for more power.

The car ran 225.1bhp with the following mods:-

Baileys VTA dumpvalve (now removed and replaced with OEM recirc)
Cone Induction Filter (being removed and will be replaced with OEM airbox with k&n panel filter)

At the time of the dyno run it was probably on 95RON as it came with 1/2 tank of petrol and we took it straight for a dyno session. Is now being run on V-Power only.

We are "hoping" the fact it had a cone filter it wasnt mapped for and the fact it was poor quality fuel that a re-run will provide better results.

To help gain a bit more power, were changing the catted up-pipe to a decat version.

So, with the right air filter, a standard DV, a decat up-pipe and a remap and V-Power, we're hoping for better things.

Now for the questions, before spending £'s on a remap.

1) Whats the going rate for a remap and where would you recommend (were in Cornwall)?

2) Before getting a remap, would it be worth making any other changes/easy mods?

3) What power should the above make?

Thanks

decat the whole exhaust

Bob Rawle visits ap motors frequently, i know he's coming down in the next 2 months (he doesn't know yet, lol) , he can tek 3 it, or fit you a simtek.

your limited really to the turbo, TD04. but you should see 270-280 imo

or get a vf34/35 for 340 - 350 bhp.

Stop messing around..flog your car and buy a well sorted Bugeye running 400 BHP LOL

I'm running a similar bugeye with 400 odd BHP and I doubt if mine is worth much more in the current climate

Hey Dazza, its only got 1 cat and thats in the up-pipe, so it will be fully decatted once thats out. What's tek3 remap?

Would simply be doing what i have planned PLUS a bigger turbo be enough to get 340ish or would i need to do more, ie fuel pump, injectors, etc?

tek3 = abbr. for "EcuTek3". Version of software able to reflash your ECU with a custom remap, via the OBD socket under your dash using a laptop and OBD connecting cable.

Im planning a very similar route as you. I was told for 340bhp I would need:

VF34 or 35 Turbo
STI Injectors
Uprated fuel pump
and possibly a STI Intercooler or front mount.

Obviously thats on top of a full decat and a remap would be required.

Eh? I thought your car was a standard WRX PPP when you had it on the rollers with the 95ron fuel (i posted in that thread too).

Unless you've changed the whole exhaust system since (and if you have, get a remap now) you have three cats. Up-pipe, downpipe and a cat in the mid-pipe (plus a resonator in the centre pipe before the backbox!).

Changing the up-pipe on my bug wrx ppp has helped spool a little bit, but theres no other noticable gains - it is the smallest of the 3 cats after all..... this diagram shows it well

If you're going after power anywhere 260-280bhp in the long run, you'll need to change to a full decat exhaust system and get it remapped.

cat in the up-pipe CAN cause problems after raising the boost.... IMHO

Shouldnt that be 2 cats? The midpipe is decatted as part of the PPP AFAIK

Ahh, thanks Steve, i was under the impression PPP left only 1 cat in the up-pipe

PPP defo removes the rear cat in the mid-pipe, but i wasnt aware there were TWO more

Can someone else confirm this as would prefer a full decat to make the most of the remap.

Thanks

Yes, you might be correct.

I was under the impression that the PPP made cat changes on the STI but not on the WRX. However, i've had my car up on ramps today and noticed that the midpipe is decatted, but it visually still looks like its got a cat in it - its a straight through pipe, but with the headshield shaped like theres a cat there

Confused.com

But yeah, the downpipe is the one you'll need to decat to get big gains, but you'll need a remap to cope with this - t'is the only reason i haven't got round to fully decatting mine yet!

Thanks for the info, what options do i have for the downpipe? The up-pipe was from a classic which dont have cats in, but is it the same for downpipes?
