Broken Heat Shield

Broken Heat Shield
Earlier this week my car Started getting this rattling noise everytime i turned the wheel, and after some investigation at the local subaru dealer it appears that the heatshield on the up pipe has cracked and come away leaving it sitting on the knuckle of the steering rack. Okay no problem i think, its still under warranty after all.
no wait, i have had a call this morning saying they are not prepared to do the work as it is part of the exhuast and therefore not covered in the warranty?
Not exactly wear and tear is it
Now to my technical question: after searching the forum it seems as though this could be an awkward job to do myself, is there anyway i can just remove the heatshield without the need to take off the up pipe? If i do end up removing the uppipe is it worth upgrading to a decat uppipe? bhp increase etc.
Cheers

Mines rattling to but it's on a classic and it doesn;t interfere with the steering knuckle. But i believe it is quite possible to remove the heatshield and leave it at that.
Haven't removed mine yet so i can;t comment on how to but it is a common fault.
Just remember as soon as you start de-catting you will have to remap for sure.
Good Luck
