Default 100 Cell or 200 Cell Sports Cat or Decat

Hi all

looking into getting my 2.5 WRX Tek 3 mapped

already have a nice TSL deresonate centre section and Group N backbox but i have been told i need to loose the 2 standard Cats on the car first

Can't quite decide between full decat, 100 cell sports cat or 200 cell

i ideally need the car to pass an MOT but have been led to believe that the Cat in the up pipe is enough to get through the test?

can anyone offer some advise on this please?

can i get away with a full decat, should i go for a 100 cell or 200 cell cat?

what difference would it mean in power gained

any help apreciated

Cheers

Kev

Thanks for that 99greenwagon

Anyone know if the Cobra one is any good? from UK exhausts

I have had a quote from the which is good however they say that they are now having to use 200 cell cats to pass mot as 100 cell was boarder line

there one is a one piece and will replace both cats in one go

Sounds a bit sus to me?

been told that the TSL Thundercat is a good bit of kit but that's £400 ? - not sure if its any better?

also Hayward & Scott is suposed to be a good sports cat

anyone tell me how much noisier the car will be with a sports cat instead of the 2 cats - i have already ditched the deresonate centre box - will it be too loud for everyday use?

cheers

Had the TSL catted downpipe on mine for the last three years, it's a WRC spec part, so doesn't restrict the flow of exhaust, and passes the MOT everytime.

HTH

P.S. Beware the cat in the up-pipe, not sure if yours has one on a 2.5 WRX, but if it has, get rid !

Thanks Dunx

I know my 2.5 wrx does have a Cat in the up pipe as well

how do you get rid of that - replace the up pipe as well? - isn't that all part of the headers?

i am just after getting the max from my first remap so i want to get it right

Stage 1 will be TSL Typhoon sports cat, 2nd cat bypass, de resonate centre and TSL Group N backbox c/w Simota panel filter and poss Wallbro fuel pump upgrade + Tek 3 map - how loud will the car be like this? - sounds just right at the mo not too loud - Power i am told should be 280 ish bhp and around 320ish torque

Stage 2 is then going to be change the Turbo to either a 2.5 STi one VF43 i think or maybe a TD05 18g or something like that and fit a monster tmic
maybe - this should yield around 330-340 bhp and 400 ish ib/ft - which i am told is about it for safe usage without problems

cheers

I am on a similar boat looking for a remap, let us know how you get on and who is going to do the remap. IMHO centre de-resonated section will create more noise than a decat. Regarding the cats I would use either a 100 or 200 cell sports cat. I have read that if a car uses a OBDII (the Impreza does?) you need a 200 cell cat. Do you guys know if there are 2 lambda sensors, one before the cat and one after the cat in the downpipe?
