Default 99 forester 2.0 sturbo need advice on maf

newbie here after advice, have been having probs with my forester running poor ie: feels like misfire when accelerating and gets really bad between 4000/5000 rpm, feels like kangarooing a bit, no ecu lights.
have changed plugs for ngk platinum, new oem subaru ignition leads, new coil.

changed these things to no avail!

just of the cuff i disconnected the maf while idling and the engine cut wich i believe it should do but i decided to drive with disconnected. when i drove no more misfire/kangaroo whatsoever but the rev seem to top out at about 4000rpm, i assume ecu is restricting revs?

cleaned the maf with electronic contact cleaner aerosol, car seemed to run a little better with less missfire.

question is do i need a new maf in honest opinion?

sounds like maf..

try resetting the ecu, if it runs worse then it is the maf
