ecu chips ebay
more advice needed guys my car is still limited to 112mph but its got full stanless system on including manifolds bigger fuel pump air filter induction kit
boost controller ect
all this was done when i bought the car but im sure its on the standard ecu and no remap or chip ect so would these work well with the mods iv got on the car and take the limiter off
i know i can go to tuning places and have the car mapped properly for 550 quid ish but the ecu chip idea seems alot simpler thanks

tbh go for a remappable option as it will make the most out of your mods and can be remapped if you do any other mods.
if you still just want a chip have a look here PolarPerformance

sure but i bet afew have tried it and have regret it mate tbh , just look at it this way wih a chip you know nothing about it coud cost you your engine !! so for getting what is a cheap mod that cost you a rebuid or new engine .It's your choice though bud .

i used an e-bay chip for a few months and did an ok job also had healthy afr on the dyno. Now i have fitted one of scott.t polarperformance chips which has given my wrx auto wagon 289bhp on a td05. Hes a helpful bloke as well, good service.

i was runnin td04 when i had the e-bay chip @ 242bhp/236ftlbs#
but polar performance chips are by far the best option scot did mine for a good price, infact for quality it was a bargain compared to the pot luck e-bay chip. Maybe i just got lucky.

Dont bother with these ebay chips....i had one fitted and had it taken out within 2 weeks. The chip did give a increase of 30 bhp and did give better mpg...But when i put the car on the rolling road to see how the chip was making it perform you could see it was not boosting at 5000rpm and 6000rpm and really groggy at low revs and was loosing top end performance...hence the chip out...and didnt even bother to sell it on.

i would, not worth the chance, alot of folks on here go on about its fine yada yada, but NONE of the top tuners will touch them. they do use some of the same hardware cos its all the same stuff, but a generic map is a very bad idea.
a mate bought my old ecu off me when i had autronics fitted to mine, same car same mods, on mine it ran rich, was fitted his car on a RR day so it could be checked, the operator terminated the run half way through cos it was running degerously lean.
the generic maps are either to general on the settings to make that much of a difference or be dnagerous to the engine.
all in all you pays your money you takes your choice, but i wouldn't go near them

Ive used various chips and never had a problem, the first chip i ever used made 313bhp on my first classic.
As far as i know Scott T was involved with the Scoobyecu which was developed a good few years ago so if you were to go that route then he's the man to use.
I have quite a few friends who drive Nissan 200SX's and they all use a chip with a generic map from stage 1 chip to stage 3, one car is running 380bhp on the stage 3 chip!
So contrary to what Tidgey says they are not a complete waste of time, but to get the very best of your mods then a custom remap is the way to go.

The scoobyecu chip on ebay seems ok to me.. a pickup in performance from std for a 240ps wrx no doubt..
I tried one on my sti ra and it does seem a bit on the safe side, spool isn't as good as it could be and AFR is quite rich but it made 301bhp the other day on Zen's dyno with just the chip, exhaust and K&N panel filter.. and was only just producing slightly over 1bar.

Live mapping is the way to go for the best gains, but the chip solution is good value and the right chip can give good gains espcecially on the 240ps cars due to poor fuel/ignition and boost control maps.
As for generic map argument.....the UK Prodrive map for 1993-1996 is actually an STi 2 Map straight out of the box...yep that's right an STi map in a UK car.
If prodrive are happy to us a Generic map, then thats good enough for me as long as the map doesn't push the envelope and the provider undertands it.
There are alot of other chips to choose from on ebay (thanks to a Hong Kong supplier also advertising a programmer), and I cannot comment on their quality, but as you can imagine once you have the programmer it's just like banging out a dodgey DVD/CD.
Of the ones that I have seen they are quite basic changes.
I've not heard of a single engine failure on any I have provided since 2002. Plus engine failure isn't always going to be the chips fault...there are alot of drivers out there that can do alot more damage on their own.
