Maybe just damp around the points with the cold weather?
This happened to me a few times last winter on the freezing days and there was nothing at all wrong with the car. Had to turn it over for over a minute on one occasion before it would start, and another time I flattened the battery doing it.
Think it might be made worse by turning it over and letting the key off before it fires up properly. Both times it happened to me, that's what I had done.
Hope this is of some help.

Put the key in the ignition & turn it as far as you can just before cranking it over. Stick your head in the boot & you should hear the fuel pump buzzing/hissing (i.e: priming itself).
If there's no buzzing then fuel's not getting through as the fuel pump's not working. Run through the simple things first such as check fuse & give the fuel pump a little thump (if it is buzzing then could be a few reasons such as the filter's blocked, wiring, ecu playing up e.t.c).

Yeah that sounds more like a fueling problem as Cushti said.

Yes, it's an in-tank pump but easy to get to & change (if you do need to change it then I'd put in a Walbro 255 which are only about £70 & an upgrade on the original). Just lift boot carpet & there is a plate with several screws to undo & it's under there.
Is the fuel pump buzzing with ignition turned on?

ye its a clifford alarm and immobiliser you need to type a code into the immobiliser when the ignition is on then all the lights come on when you do that then you start it

I don't know about relays or electrics at all but then I've never ever had an electrical problem with mine in 3 years (touch wood). I imagine there is a relay for it - do a search on here.
This is a total long shot but your big boot install may have loosened the wiring going to the pump. Your mentioned earlier that you went round the garage & managed to get it going after a couple of minutes - how was it running after it had got going?

This happend to me yesterday, ended up leaving the car at work over night.
got one of the lads to have a look at it yesterday, took the fuel line off next to the fuel pump and tired to crank the car to see if fuel was coming through, not a drop!
he said either my alarm is stoping the pump from working or the pump is nackered!
got to work thismorning tired the car and it fired up first time! god knows what happend! might try to get to the fuel pump and have a look at it!

Also, the relay is under the dash bolted to the driver's side A-Pillar.
Mounted on a bracket holding 3 relays - the centre one (brown) is for the fuel pump.
Worth testing for live at the relay, and seeing if it's switching correctly.

Mine had similar probs.
It would only just start then soon as the throttle was pressed it stalled.
A friend parked his up over night then nothing.
Both where fuel pumps.
Its a very easy change.
