Default buying turbochargers from ebay? good/bad idea?

Looking to buy a td05 20g, have seen some on Ebay prices starting from aound £400 - £850. Has anyone bought one of the cheaper ones? Opinions etc.
If you do a search for 'SUBARU TD05 20G TURBO CHARGER' some should come up.
Cheers.

If I remember right, there was a thread about td05 20g from ebay. Most of the comments came back saying there cr@p copies.
I would say get one from Andy F. or wait for one that turns up in SN.

All the bad posts have been on the JA Warehouse turbos. But then again there's a few guys on here who are running good power levels on here (read in previous posts) who have had them for over a year.

So basically what i'm trying to say is some of the JA Warehouse ones are good and some real bad. Therefore would you take that chance?

I know i wouldn't. Put an Ad in the wanted section of the forum and lookout in the sales section they do come up. I missed Andy F 20G on ebay for £252 still kicking myself for forgetting about it

Good Luck

I Think the going rate on here for a second hand andy forest 20g is about £600 quid that's what i paid for mine.

You're better off on here if you ask me and if you can collect it in person.

There are various ways of telling a fake.

Cos it doesn't look like what's on Andy F's website. The compressor covers are usually smaller or weird looking.

One option is to pick up a knackered old TD05 from an early breaker and exchange it for a 20G from Andy, 550+VAT IIRC which seems a good deal. The way prices on these things are second hand, you could pretty much get a proper AF 20G on exchange, run it around for a year, then sell it for the same as what you paid. For some reason, people often expect as much for a used one as a new. Weird.

Buy from someone reputable on items like that. Too many people try and save a few ££s with ebay stuff and end up paying more in the end IMHO
