Halfords extreme brilliance bulbs on offer-any good?
Noticed that Halfords are running a BOGOF offer at the mo for these.£18-99 a bulb but are they any good as the claim a 90% improvement?

I'm suspecting the 'brilliance' refers to their heat range colour i.e. like high Kelvin blue - but OEM same-wattage - xenons, where the blueness gives an alleged c. 20% extra brightness. Whether this 'extra' is actual or perceived, though, is another matter.
AFAIC, only a genuine HID kit will give you getting on for a genuine twice the brightness. Mind you, for £18.99 you can't go wrong (just make sure the wattage is no more than the OEM bulbs before deciding on buying...

Well unless the wattage is significantly upped, then I simply can't believe they'll be almost double the brightness . If they are high wattage bulbs, then do NOT buy! The Impreza's wiring loom for it's lighting system is marginal at best, so any higher powered bulbs will surely burn it out out in no time.

i have run higher wattage bulbs in all my cars, and never had a problem.
on my current scoob, i have been using them for just over 2 years

What's the dipped beam wattage of your new bulbs compared to OEM? I suppose if it's not excessive, then the extra current draw is marginal anyway?
Perhaps it's something of an urban myth that I've bought into!

If you really want to get the best out of your lights, HIDs are the best way to go.
Uprated halogens tend to have a shorter life-span than standard ones, so buy some spares if you decide to go that route.
If you decide to go for HIDs, our kits receive great feedback and are of a very high quality.

i just put some of these in my classic because they where bogof, they seem to be ok a bit better but not 90% over the standard ones. i can vouch for the higher wattage ones run them in all my cars for the last 2 or 3 years and never had any problems just got fed up with people flashing me all the time.

Halfords have always been expensive for Bulbs, and it's crazy that you still have to pay 18 quid for each bulb when they should be sold as a pair...Philips Extreme £22.95 a pair, plus you get a free replacement bulb.
