Default Lack of Engine Braking at High Revs

Hi Guys,

I have a MY96 WRX that started life as an automatic. I had a manual conversion done on it about a year ago, all fine.

I have since found out that it is running a TD05 turbo and not the TD04 that the auto should have (just like the wagon). A suggestion from Simon at JGM was to get hold of a Z4 ECU which would be the right map for that combination of turbo, injectors etc.

I have done this, and it runs really well apart from the fact that it has very little/almost no engine braking at higher revs and no pops or bangs, as soon as it gets to about 3500 revs, then it engine brakes quite a lot with plenty of pops and bangs from the exhaust (full decat by the way).

Is this normal or anything to be concerned about?

Jason
