98 classic check engine light??????
Got a strange problem with my car. Its a 98 2000turbo uk car with a K&N panel and Magnex cat back. The problem started a few months back when i left the car for about 4 days as i was out of the country. When i got back i started the car up and drove for about 3 miles and the check engine light came on. I stopped at the side of the road and turned off the car. At this point i gave Scoobyclinic a bell and asked them for some advice(they have done all the work on my car). Was asked if the car had lost power or started to make any strange noises to which it did'nt so started the car back up and the light had gone out. Did the journey which was about 20miles and the light stayed off. Over the next few days the light did come on a few times but always went out after a few seconds. The car has never lost power or felt any differant or made any noises. Then today i fitted a new rocker cover gasket to the right hand side and when done i started the car up and the check engine light came on and the car was really struggling to idle infact it would'nt idle just died. I checked all the things i had moved and the only thing i found was one of the plug caps was not pushed in all the way. I pushed the cap all the way in and re-started the car the light went out and the car seemed to run ok. My question is do you think the plug cap not being on correctly could cause the light to come on and do you think this could be the original problem. HELP bit scared to drive it incase it's something serious.

Connect the 2 black plugs under the dash and see what the diagnostics tell you. It will give you a code for all faults stored in the ECU.
Look at the link below for full instructions
Scoobypedia | Trusted knowledge for everything Subaru | Knowledge / Reading ECU Fault Codes
The CEL will flash a code that you can read from the link above and that will tell you what the problem is
