Black Smoke on Startup

Black Smoke on Startup
Tech Advice Needed.
Went to see a car. Car had been sat around for a few months. Started first time but there was a bit of black smoke. Looks like standard exhaust.
Possible reasons for this? No smoke otherwise from the initial start. Black smoke is usually unburnt fuel right?
Apart from the black smoke at the first start the car is pretty mint, the engine sounds fine, although not as smooth as another for sale there. Stuck between deciding which one to plump for.

As a general rule of thumb.
Black = fuel
Blue = oil
White = water
My car can blow a load of crap out the back when you fire it up but it does have a built engine and these are more prone due to forged pistom clearances when cold.
It wasn't a 97 was it by chnace?

Probably okay. Would be more worried if I'd turned up to look at a car and it was already warmed up
Get someone who knows their stuff to have a look with you if you're not sure.

yeah im guess its just crap. It only did it on the first start up. It was a 98 iirc.
Just wondered if there were any funky mods where people overfuel them or retard the timing.
Or perhaps a sign of something else potnetially going wrong regarding the delivery of fuel. Im going to go back and have another look. see if it does it again, if it doesnt ill be putting an offer on.
