weird noise from out side the car??
hi, if im drivin on the motorway or any road that i can do 70+ on, i get a really horrible loud noise coming from outside. think its the wing mirrors or maybe the vents on the bonnet!
not really sure what it is but ive had enough and apart from jumping out of the car and on the bonnet putting my hand over vents etc doing 70+ (not a good idea, i know)
so any body had this before or know they think what it is..
cheers

yeh i thought about that, i think something is definately loose/rattling because as i shut the door, something rattles.... not the drivers wing mirror as i held it when i shut it.

Hi rick08,
I recently bought an MY2000 Sport (estate) and mine has what sounds like the same situation. When you get to about 75mph this noise starts, as I accelerate it peaks at about 85mph and by the time I get to 95mph it stops altogether (it's OK I live in Germany - no speedlimit!).
I reckon the noise is coming from the ventilation system, if I am doing 80 behind another car the noise all but stops and then starts again when they pull over. Also, when my car was covered in snow it didn't do it.
It sounds like something vibrating/rattling in the ventilation system - my mate thinks it could be the pollen filter rattling or something like that. Anyway, it's too cold for me to work on the car so I just have to drive at 70 or put up with the noise - boo!

I'll check the wingmirrors and have a look underneath this evening. As for the driveshaft/wheel bearings - I don't know how I could be sure. I'm going to get it serviced soon - it's due it's 75k service anytime now so I can ask them to check.

Yer they should be able to help you
Wheel bearing is quite easy jack the car up and see if there is any play in the wheel top to bottom. Driveshaft just give it a wobble any excessive play that may be it!
do you get any vibarting from the steering?
