coolant pipe bursting wouldn't cause the power steering to fail, sounds like a snapped belt that has hit the pipe and split it???

could be wrong but just a guess

your power steering pipe will have burst then. hence steering failure.

the U bend pipe above the radiator common for corrosion.

replace pipe, fill back up with power steering fluid and you'll be back to normal.

I have a similar problem,
I think it's the pipe with a u-bend that sits in front of the radiator, although it must be a tiny leak.
Any ideas where to get a replacement pipe ,other then from subaru as they only sell the whole assembly which is £120+ !!!!
Perhaps some sort of pipe bent into shape would do?
Also how do I drain the power steering system?

You could just get a new pipe made up. there is a firm in Essex, Abbey Hoses, that make re-inforced hosing. There is probably loas of other firms that do it across the country.
