Default Wurth Octane booster...any good?

just noticed that wurth do octane booster, we use wurth a lot inwork for various things so could get this stuff pretty cheaply. claims to raise the octane upto 5 points with a 0.5% mix. states that 95 would become 100ron but oddly 97/98 would also become 100ron and why not 102-103?

anyone here use it and how does it compare to the others about?

cheers

Rich

i have used it i can get it through work to, it is good stuff but yes it does make some huge claims and being random about it like you say i would say 97/98 ron to 100 wolud be more of a reality than 95 upto 100 i also have used millers octane plus which is rated at the same spec but i found it to be cheaper than wurth plus i do like millers oils products on another note you would not want to keep a spare bottle of wurth in you car it smells savage real strong!!! the millers does not smell at all so can keep one in the boot i do rate the wurth stuff but it is more expensive than millers hope this helps

use e85 instead Same cost as petrol (but you obviously need a remap to benefit (and run safely))

I personally wouldn't recommend ocatane booster, it's too inconsistant when it comes to mixing. A remap on 98 would be my choice then you know it's fine

to remap a 98 means shedding out a fair bit of cash due to having to buy a new or second hand aftermarket ecu, apexi etc. the car will run just fine on 95octane as it is the uk model but im running a vf28 with a bit more boost than standard so i think i should treat it as an import and get the highest octane i can. at less than £5 for a 300ml can its not expensive. i have lots of supporting mods aswell just waiting for esl to come up with something to remap the bugger, if they dont soonish then it will be apexi time!

the Wurth stuff i overly expensive for what it does and most of the reps seem to believe the head office blurb and spout it accordingly..............

it gives a "boost" of 5octane points, brill............err no!!
10 octane points make ONE RON, therefore in 95 octane petrol it becomes 95.5........

Millers, etc. are not only chepaer but far more effective giving a min. of around 2 FULL RON

where did you get the 10 octane is 1 RON from? RON stands for Research Octane Number, RON is determined by running the fuel in a test engine with a variable compression ratio under controlled conditions, and comparing the results with those for mixtures of iso-octane and n-heptane. 95 + 5 octane will become 100 not 95.5

No. stockcar's correct! Don't get confused with 'points' and 'RON'. As he said, it's 10 'points' to 1 'RON'! So if there's no mention of 'RON' on the bottle and it banging on about 'points' only, then take it as points!... So, 5 points only adds half a RON to the fuel's octane rating!

I feel that the manufacturers take advantage of this 'ignorance' to sell a lesser product at similar prices to other 'proper' stuff.

IMHO, Nitrous Formula's NF Octane Booster Race Formula (the black bottle) is good value at c. £12:
Roger Clark Motorsport - RCM Product Detail.

It's rated at, allegedly, 6 full RON (i.e. 60 'points') for the bottle. If you use a third of the bottle to 60 litres of fuel (a tankful), it'll theoretically raise NUL 95 by 2 full RON to 97; SUL 97 to 99; V-Power 98.6 to 100.6, etc... Therefore, adding about £4 on top of a tankful - not bad.

like i said you are being misled by your Wurth rep or company blurb

they raise the fuel rating by 5 octane POINTS,
to make one FULL RON you need 10 octane POINTS,
hence the wurth stuff is only worth 0.5 RON
