Default First Post and Its all about INDUCTION!

First of all HELLO! I have just purchased my first ever Scooby and although its a non turbo auto, it don't matter cos I love it! (and I couldn't afford to run a turbo! lol)

Quick question though. I would like to put some form of induction kit on it (not for any real power gains, mainly for the sound, currently my flat 4 sounds like a 1.2!). The car is an 05 model, and obviously non turbo. Now the problem I am having, is will just taking the filter out of the airbox and putting a universal cone onto the intake work, or do I need to by a model specific one?

Cheers
Phil

Welcome aboard

I assume you're after the turbo models' fantastic sounding off-beat # krobba krobba # lol burlbe, yes?

If so, an IK won't give it to you - you'll just notice a bit of induction roar (if at all), and you'll probably lose a bit of power too!

It's the un-equal length exhaust manifold (or headers) that gives the flat-4 engine its distinct sound.

This forum is probably your friend: .:ImprezaSport.net Forums:. (Powered by Invision Power Board)

I think the NA headers to fit are Boorler ones? (although they might be for Classics only?)

IMO you would be better to stick a stainless back box on mate rather than change the induction set up, this should give you the noise you require.
There should be plenty of threads pointing you in the right direction if you have a look through them

Yeah, if it's not the 'burble' you're after, then as above.

A back box will be the cheapest/simplest/easiest way of changing the sound for the better.

Thank you...I would've been well disapointed if I'd blown £150 on a K&N to find out i'd lost power!

Even if you did get gains (unlikely because of the underbonnet heat), they'd be minimal e.g. circa 2-6 bhp tops, so you wouldn't feel it on the road anyhow.

Just stick with the OEM paper element - or for about £40, a decent panel e.g. Apexi, K&N, Green, etc. - in the standard black plastic airbox.

Good thinking, I never thought of that! But do the panel filters make any difference?

I have a cold air induction kit and the sound is awesome mate.
Boot the boot down and you get a woosh kick in, air is being forced through system.
Well recommend it mate for the sound.
Wont give burble though

yours is a turbo his is not so no air is forced, it will give a small increase in noise but nothing like on a turbo and may lose a few hp. best sticking with standard airbox and a better panel filter.
