Default Crystal Lights on a Version 3???

Are the version 5/6 crystal headlights a straight fit on to the older cars? i.e. version 3 sti's?

or do they require modification?

also what else is different to the version 3 frona nd rear end to the 5/6s?

Thanks

I'm 99% certain versions 3/4/5/6 headlights are all interchangeable.

- At the rear, the v.3/4 has same smoothed over rear bumper as v.5/6.

- The v.5/6 STi variants have the high level rear wing, whereas the v.3/4 STi's have the mid-level jobbie (the v.5's wing's top blade is flat, the v.6's has a kicked-up lip (guerney) to the rear).

- Moving to the front, the v.3/4/5/6 bonnet and headlights pattern are the same.

- The v.3/4 front grille is flatter than the v.5/6 - v.5/6 one protrudes significantly forward of the headlights.

- The v.3/4 front bumper is the same as the v.1/2.

- Inside, v.4/5/6 got the facelift dash/fascia.

AFAIK, yes, v.3/4's grilles interchange with v.5/6's. I love the 5/6 grille - nice and aggressive and aesthetically pleasing.

I've got a DR Motorsport v.5/6 replica on my 1993 WRX (the replicas are for v.1/2) and, what with the 22B replica bonnet vents and STi fog covers, transforms the the v.1/2's 'face' and gives it a much nicer, aggressive - but still an OEM - look (without having to resort to the expense of a full facelift front end conversion i.e. plus bonnet/headlights/bumper/indicators).

Not without going to serious hassle i.e later dash transplant. You could flock the dash for that motorsport/rally look - stops the sun glaring off the dashtop.

Cheapish mods are a tasteful smaller diameter steering wheel - 320mm is perfect - like a Momo or Sparco; a set of silver alloy pedals; and a milled alloy - or motorsport white plastic - plain round, or 'lightbulb'-shaped, gearknob to lift the interior. More expensive would be competition style bucket seats and harnesses (don't have to spend a fortune on them).

Also, the Lockwood white dial set (the 4 dials in binnacle and heater plate) will give it that 'STi' look but, moreover, you'll actually be able to see where the dark needles are pointing to at night!...

I have a 320mm Momo Corse steering wheel, and the motorsport-style white gearknob, fitted - I'll post a pic tomoz too...

Make sure the lights you buy have manual/electric adjusters, or have the option for you to fit manual/electric adjusters.

Good info there! Am I right in saying you can get a V5/V6 grill, bumper and splitter and use these with V3 headlights and bonnet?

Thanks

Yes.

Anything below the grille/headlight level - i.e. bumper downwards lol - are fully interchangeable across all Classic MYs. Plus the 3/4 grilles can be swapped with v.5/6 ones because the headlights are the same pattern (unlike the v.1/2's headlights)... So yes, the v.5/6 bumper, v.6 deep splitter and v.5/6 grille should swap no prioblem...

N.B. You might also require the v.5/6's bumper's metal support bar too.

Thanks for the info much appreciate Going to get a V5/V6 front bumper, grill and P1 style splitter to refresh the front. Headights and bonnet make the cost x 2 so glad I can just do the previous!

Cheers

Hold on! You mentioned v.3 in your earlier post . That would already have the facelifted bonnet and headlights anyway - so you would not have to entertain fitting them (even though you're not going to anyway).

This leads me to believe you must have a v.2 (MY96) with the flatter bonnet and more rounded off headlights, yes? . If so, be careful, as the P1 (or any v.3-6) grille won't fit straight on - you'll have to phaff around with the way it fixes to the top of the slam panel, and cut bits out at either side to contour with the rounded inner edges of the v.1/2.s headlights, etc.!

Sorry for the late reply.

Not the most radical of Scoobs, but hey, I like it...

BTW, my wheels aren't bronze but gold (they're filthy in the photos - see VMS for better photos of 'em...)

Also notice how my dash has sucummbed to the sun bleaching lol...

LOL!!! The P1 splitter and coded handles are my next exterior mods! (plus the later smoothed rear bumper).

Yeah, the original MOMO Corse is my fave of all steering wheels - it's the same as what's fitted to Integrale Evos (I had one of those cars too - awesome!)

You can get leather gaitors on eBay (I'll post a link up soon)... But I like the std rubber one - more 'Gp.A/Gp.N rallycar-esque, lol.

I'd have to change the bonnet to a v.3-6 one though - too much cash etc. However I might do a full v.5/6 front end conversion at a later date though...

I also have the v.3-6 clear indicator rear clusters too - fully detangoed lol.

Cool. Yeah the red-stitched (and plain) do look okay don't they.

That red one would go brilliantly in v.3-6 STi's, so as to match their red-stitched gearknob
