It's either World Rally eXperimental or World Rally Cross from what i've read.

Don't know how true that is though.

wouldn't there be a different letter if the last letter was trim level though?
Similar to other manufacturers using L or LX?

Don't think the X is intended to mean anything as such. It's just a random (but nice sounding/looking) letter to have after the 'world rally' WR part. Therefore, WRX is the moniker that Subaru have decided on to denote that it's the flagship homologated turbo model of the Impreza range (none of the lesser cooking models are badged 'WR...')..... If only Subaru had decided to market it as 'WRC' instead, though! . Damn!

Yeah, but that's a public domain dictionary where any Tom, Dick or Harry can put forward what they think it is - doesn't necessarily mean it's correct.

I'm gonna stick with the fact that the X isn't intended to mean anything - until an official source says otherwise... LOL

Who's gonna be the first to email Subaru Japan's marketing dept.?!

X isnt trim level as in america they have the WRX TR, TR being the level of trim, being a lower spec model.

I always understood that WR was World Rally and X was a euphemism for Championship (bearing in mind that back in 1992 it wasn't known by WRC but by the full title - and WRX was for Japanese market consumption only for a long time), although I can't remember where I read it.

It's World Rally Cross ( with the X standing for 'cross' ) in the same way as BMX stood for Bicycle Motor Cross - hope this makes some sort of sense ! Not the easiest of thing to type !!!
