hi folks which would be best a new ecu and if so which sort or a remap just got the car and my last one i fitted a stock ecu chip to raise boost etc but was not impressed with the power delivery
i guess this has been done loads so apologies for what is no doubt a repeat

Your options are either remap of your ECU (ESL live), or buy and map another ECU, most popular being Apexi PFC or Simtek.
New ECU route will be about £1k, I think a ESL live is half that.
Either option will do a similar job, main difference is that the Simtek doesn't require a MAF which makes things easier if aiming for big power

www.jollygreenmonster.co.uk gives prices on the above suggestion (rough guide as other mappers may be cheaper or more expensive) although Jollys' reputation/results are very good

All depends on any upgrades you're planning & your budget, as not everyone has unlimited funds.
The cheaper options, but obviously have less functionality than aftermarket ecus, are:
a) check what ECU you currently have (getting a 2nd hand Z4 ecu would be better if you don't already have one - check threads for boost levels on different stock ecu's: Z4 usually sells for around £80 or so) or
b) get a chip (e.g: Polar Performance) to insert into whatever ecu you already have which also has additional benefits such as removing the limiter e.t.c. There are some dodgy copies floating around but a new chip from a recommended supplier will be less than £200.
These can both cope with minor engine upgrades such as induction kits & decatted exhausts but no good if you plan on injector/turbo upgrades as they are not mappable.

i had the esl fitted, very impressed! You'll need the later map sensor too, £60 ish.this will let you run more than 1.1 bar boost.once fitted, you can have it remapped when you upgrade more. It also keeps all the oe safety features such as knock control.
