Default Help. My scooby has just gone pop!

Ive got a W plate turbo 2000. just pulled off, got about 200 yards up the road and heard a pop. Then no power and a clatering sound. I turned it off straight away. Any ideas what this could be?????????

Where was clattering coming from (engine or gearbox)?

Have you got an FMIC & a hose has just popped off?

agree, prob a hose. Have a look around under the bonnet. Does it still run, if it does make sure the oil light isnt on.

First quick job is to take the i/c off & check all the hoses going to & under it for splits.

Thanks for the info everyone.
Might just sell it as it is. What do you think a w plate turbo 2000 saloon would go for with a knackered engine????

Double-check the i/c hoses - it does sound bad when a hose has popped off or split. The noise might not even be engine internals - under the i/c is the gearbox so could be shattered flywheel or anything.

Selling as it is will knock £1k off it's value as the buyer will have to assume the worst!

Agree with this 100%, DON,T give up yet until you know it is the worst case scenario, if you,re not familiar around a Subaru it still could be a hose of some-kind. But have to say if you,ve HAVE checked a few places and the BANG you,ve described then it doesn,t sound too good.

Good look with the outcome..

engines and gearboxes dinnae go pop son. if ye were chowin cams an pistons ye widnae hear nae pop.....diznae matter what reg or many miles ye'd done.

Try yer cold air intake tae the turbo unit and see if its burst and sooked intae yer impellors.

If no it sooonds like a front mount intercooler pipe poppin off and rattlin.

If nane eh them, check none eh yer neighbours isnae missin a cat....

.....ye sure it wisnae more a sort eh meaowpop?

I bought my last Impreza (W 4 door in Mica) for £1.5k just over 2 years ago. it was a very good car with full history, multiplayer, drop links and uprated suspension, and a full ss exhaust. I'd say you'd make more from the car if you break it and sell it on, but this is a PITA and not everyone has the time/room. As a car with a gone engine I'd only expect to pay around £500 (that's not an offer). Not seen any for a while for sale with a gone engine though, so you might get more.

On the plus side if you do keep the car and you get the rebuild done properly you'll have a strong car for several years. Someone like API charge you just under 3k for a warranted rebuild.

Try re-reading it with a hybrid Scottish/Geordie accent in your head, then you'll understand...
