Default what heads fit ej20

as iv ruined one of my heads, and im finding it difficult to find a replacment. what other heads will fit the engine.

i assuming version 1 - 2 will and 3 - 4

but are version 5 - 6 etc stronger, or flowed better.

if im gonna replace both i find it more sence to get the best possible to help power gains. regardless of versions, old or new

all heads will fit the block but dependant on the inlet manifold only certain heads will fit that, unless you go to the hassle of changing the manifold and wiring harness (not worth it)

what age is your car?

ok i'm not too sure what version that would be possibly v4?? sure someone will confirm this.

if it is v4 anything upto v4 will fit without the hassle of changing the manifold and loom.

v3 & v4 wrx & sti heads all use the same head castings (think i read in another thread u have v4 heads??) surely you can get a set of wrx heads cheap cheap.

if your desperate i have wrx heads v1/v2 i think, make me an offer

adzer, check the passenger side front turret - metal VIN plate on there. Under 'Applied model' will be a 7-digit code beginning "GC8..." then a letter. If it reads "GC8E..." then v.4 (Sep 97 - Aug 1998), if "GC8F..." then v.5 (Sep 1998 - Aug 1999).

As mentioned in your project post MJE WRX, you can use any head cast V3 or V4 or even WRX late 96 to 98 wrx head casts. As long as your stud patterns are right.

Please note the only difference between the V3/4 STI heads and WRX is the valvetrain. Buy a WRX head and just transfer your whole valve train. Just make sure you shim up properly though.

Good Luck

i have all the stuff from my old head, cams, valves, shims etc, just need the head shell to transfer everything.

i dunno how much a head is valued at. to be honest, as cheap as poss as my funds r extremlely tight. this wasnt planned for the build, so didnt budget for it whatso ever.

There's not much on fleabay at the mo....but TBH there;s usually quite a lot of heads on there which will allow your V4 sti valvetrain to be transferred into.

I have seen a pair of WRX heads on a 98 sell for £40 inc valves and all which you won't need. They're cheep so just be patient and keep checking on e-bay.......Just type " Subaru Heads " in the search and you will see all that is available obviously ignore the headlights and gaskets.

Any probs just PM...and i will try my best to help....Set of V5's on there at the mo>>>>

SUBARU IMPREZA WRX CYLINDER HEADS on eBay, also Engine Tuning Parts, Performance Tuning Parts, Car Tuning Styling, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 29-Dec-08 19:30:00 GMT)

I don't think these will take your inlet manifold though so no point...but then again i could be wrong....someone please clarify?

They honestly look and seem like v5's if i was you i would PM the following people in this order.

1. Merlin24
2. Dazdavies
3 Lateralperformance

for more info....as my knowledge on V5's is very limited and i would not want to advise you wrongly. Again not to panic as WRX heads can be had very cheaply. I'm sure you will see loads more come up on fleabay after the holiday period.

The heads you are watching on ebay use the new style manifold, cams and pulleys so your manifold wont fit, It can be done but it gets expensive, and you would need the cam pulleys with these heads.

V5 heads are the new style heads as above and nothing fits aswell, the cams are very different and cannot be swapped either. The only thing that really fits is the exhaust manifold and the spark plugs, if that makes sense.

They will need to be heads from either a 1997 or 1998 WRX to be cheap and to be on the safe side with compatability of your STI 4 valvetrain.

Keep looking you will find loads pretty soon.

Give John a call at rh motorsport in Cornwall. He will be able to sort you one out I'm sure. 01566 777171 or 07773788104.
I use him all the time and he always has engines to break.

Sti casings are the same.
The porting on them is a work of art.
Sorry not willing to let them go cheap.
