Question

got this restrictor out , on me desk at the moment !
i believe there is a diffencenc between the ppp and the norm one. You can tell just from looking at it i believe.
anyone know the dif between them.

Cheers steve

You have a (small) flexible hose coming from your turbo outlet to a sort of T-piece ... inside that hose (you can feel it) there is a brass restrictor. The opening inside that restrictor will influence peak boost buildup at lower RPM.

A slightly smaller hole will give considerably higher boost. We are talking increments of 0.1 mm here.

The PPP comes with a new brass restrictor with a smaller hole. If the dealer forgets to fit that, peak torque will be down on what's expected.

If the PPP restrictor was fitted in a std MY01 what would be the result ?

Could someone perhaps try this at the next RR !

well the original orifice is larger than the ppp the ppp is 1.15 and the original is 1.2 so if you measure the hole ( haha ) you will be able to tell if it was changed ps a p1 is .8 oh er

From: Glos UK. - Manufacturers of ECU Data Monitors.
Red face

Mine WAS forgotten, just had the correct one put in, the standard one apparently has a circular indent around the body while the PPP one is smooth. No increased boost yet because the ECU is not "learning" so a new ECU is on order.
Note - the dealer who supplied my car did not fit my PPP another dealer did this because they could get the PPP sooner ( don't ask me) BUT my original dealer has taken this problem on board and are being very helpfull.

Rich101, my guess is that when only fitting the restrictor on a MY01, you would see higher boost one or two times, and then the ECU will have brought down the boost solenoid duty cycle and you will end up with the same boost again, maybe with a small peak (overshoot) before it settles down. The restrictor will only work in conjunction with the rest of the PPP kit (ECU add-on)

PCB, not having a dis, but the "ECU is not learning" ... is, erm, incorrect information. The MY01 ECU "learns" things almost immediately, and if it wouldn't, you would not be able to drive your car. The problem is that it DOES learn LOL. Fit an catless exhaust, boost goes up for a second, ECU tames things down for example. In that respect it is much more sophisticated than the older model ECU, but alas not so easy to tune mechanically (you need to alter signals into the ECU to get there)

I have seen this comment ("ECU not learning") twice now, and I wonder if there may be a problem with the PPP (GEMS) daughterboards (forgot to map them, faulty batch) ?

Great thread!!!!!

Maybe thats why the RR info shows a lot less torque than should be attained.

Can someone explain to a technical bafoon like me how i check if its right?? Diagrams or photo's would be apreciated!!!

If i go to the dealer - what am i to ask them exactly - i'll write it down so i dont confuse them!!!!!

Cheers
