Fancy putting a dump valve on my car - but!
I have an '05 STI blobeye and fancy putting a dump valve on it. I have heard that they make them run like a bag of nails. Is this true, has anyone got experience of this?
Does anyone have any recommendations for a decent one to get?
Many thanks
Jim

Leave the standard one on there or if you INSIST on an aftermarket one for the barry boy whoosh then make sure its not a VTA one as they will cause the ecu to misread the maf and cause overfuelling making the car run like a bag of ****e

Hi Jim,
If they open to atmosphere for the nice tish sound, you are effectively dumping air that the MAF has told the engine to expect, so sufficent fuel is added, but less air goes in = run rich. I thinbk the increase in fuel consumption is noticeable but others may disagree. If you get a GFB that can be set to recirculation no air is lost and in theory the valve is more precisely made and is adjustable so that the dump valve reduces the shock on the turbo and allows it to maintain speed so that lag is reduced during gear changes. In theory. The way I drive it is of dubious value so although I have bought a GFB BOV (Blow Off Valve) before, it was a waste of money IMHO. But the high end racer boys with many hundreds of HP may see the benefit. However, if you have teenage kids of the PS/ Fast 'n Furious generation, that tish is rather fun (in town where it can be heard) one of the lads down the road has one on his Golf TDi - now THAT's a wannabe ....

Thanks for all the comments guys, i think i will leave it alone. If the only real benefits are going to be whooosh noise and bad MPG i think i can live without one.

If you just want a D/V for the noise, a far cheaper option is to simply put a sign in the window of your car with the words "I AM A ****" written on it, you will get exactly the same looks from passers by but with the added satisfaction that it hasn't cost you anything!

Thanks all for your advice, it would seem opinions are very varied. I have heard good things about the Turbosmart products so i think i will possibly look in to them. In the mean time i have taken you advice Scoobmeister and put some new graphics on. Cheers Jim

Jim,
Save your money and spend it elsewhere.
Been there done it, and now running the standard dump valve again.

Cheers Mark. . . . . noted.
You going to the Porchester meet on the 12th. I keep meaning to come along to one, but they always fall on a bad day for me. Im going to the Ace cafe that night now to a PH meet instead.
