Default Help Please 03 STI VF34 Turbo

Would like some help from those in the know.
I am looking at buying a Blob eye UK STI and have been told that is has a VF34 turbo on it but it hasn’t had a remap. Apparently Turbo Techniques said this was fine
Is this a problem or will the std map be a problem?
What turbo should it have on as std?
The only other mods are a mongoose back box and a dump valve but that will be coming straight off

Cheers Rich

Its always best to map the car for the turbo on it, but it is very similar in size to the VF35, but for the sake of it, i would have it remapped.

Thanks Tony
I will be bringing it back to France so can’t get it mapped until July at the earliest I just wanted to check it wasn’t a big change.
I would have the clutch to change and then re register it in France so will not be using much anyway.
I dont need it until the baby arrives in May Family car you see
Is it about right for a 03 STI 40,000 mile car to have had a Turbo and need a clutch?

I think the VF34 was based on the VF30, similar to the early new age JDM cars, so not really much difference, even some of the early UK STI type UK's may have run a VF30 as well as the VF35.

Don't know why you'd need a clutch at that mileage. People running much higher specs and mileage and are fine. Maybe launched the hell out of it?!?

He said that it was changed due to failure and was told (by Turbo Technics I think) that the VF34 was a more reliable unit.

why did the original turbo fail?

the vf34 and vf35 are similar specs, but the vf34 is roller bearing i believe.

yeah vf34 is rollerbearing, any turbo change will require a map change to be safe for the engine
