Hi Everyone!

Picked up my P1 today!

Only prob is boot is soaking and i was wondering if anyone know the best plan of action to fix it?

Or if this is a common problem on the P1?

Any help would be very apreciated.

There was a thread on the RB5OC a while ago which highlited a leaky boot which turned out to be very common problem. You could look on there if you get no joy on here.

 

Might be something to do with rear lights not sealed properly. Or could even be the boot seal has had it.

 

could it be the spoiler?

Is thier such a thing as a new spolier gasket for a P1?

Anyone know?

As Mr Chips says they often leak between body and rear lights..

two choices.. remove the bung at the bottom of the boot floor under the sparewheel and wait for warm weather and remove rear lights and reseal, or struggle in the cold to remove the rear lights as the sealant will not want to let go like it does when sticky and warm

p.s can you get a spolier gasket at all?

Just some idiot has used silicon sealant on mine and very visable round the edges and i seem to remember on my WRX STI 8 JDM it had what looked like the edge of a gasket under the spoiler?

Not to sure on gasket, but doesnt sound good they used silicone, must have had a problem before. You might be able to get a foam/rubbery padding, that can cut to size maybe.

I have asked on P1 owners club site and they have advised me that thier a 4 part pack that can be bought for the spolier!

Its strips that are place on the boot adheasive side down and foam side up or felt i cant remember.

I got a link to aguy called Gary who works for subaru and have asked him for a price.

Not looking forward to trying to remove the spolier mind you!

sounds like someone has been here before and incorrectly tried to seal the spoiler which is unlikely to be the source of the leak

 

strategy, I've got an angle on this...

Does your P1's rear light clusters have clear indicator lower sections? 'Cause if so, there's bound to be your answer right there! A previous owner will have replaced the std UK spec orange units for JDM MY97>on clear ones (if this is the case, do you have an aftermarket rear foglight fitted too?).

Leak is bound to be through lack of sealant or not sealing fully. It's a well documented problem on here when swapping out the clusters... me included!

No, it's sometimes only a problem if you remove the OEM rear lights, thus breaking the factory's perfect sealing.

If you haven't tampered with your car's rear clusters, then that's why you have no leaking (the phenomenon wouldn't be P1 specific either, obviously ).

m8 had this problem as well !!! water was running under the boot seal just at the lights there will be a slight drain groove ( beside the rubber ) the water was comming over the rubber and into the boot !!! check your jack well as it can fill with water as well

Funny you should say this as the leak is also in my Jack Area!!!!!!

I was checking it yesterday when i got the car and had to empty the small tool bag with water in it!!!!!!


If the water is in here also then what is the cause and what did you replace to fix the issue?

I had a leakly boot on my old UK car, noticed it after fitting a Prodrive rear spoiler, tried sealing under the spoiler but made no difference.

Bought some STI rear lights, when i fitted these using a decent amount of sealant the problem went away, rear lights had previously been untouched so definatly worth checking.

 

bet you a pound its the rear lights

 

it could be the boot seal needs replacing ....from experience
