Question 97 sti engine using 99uk ecu?

right im possibly getting a low miliage 97sti engine +turbo fitted to my 99uk as the engine is fooked now i need to know if my ecu will work on it till i can afford a new ecu or if i can get the 99 ecu mapped for that engine?

the guy fitting it says he can change the wiring to the plugs to the engine if need be

my other question is what is the going rate for a low miliage 97sti engine and turbo to go with it i think its a vf23 not 100% sure though?

no is the short answer... don't fit that engine..

the long answer - you cannot without a lot of work run the 97 heads in your 99.. the 97 and 99 idle valve differ.. the 99 is a stepper motor, the 97 a valve.. it is not possible to alter the ecu to control the other without lots of hassle.. the ignition systems differs.. the 99 has an ignitor within the coilpack and the 97 doesn't it is separate and on the inner wing.. although you could just run the 99 coilpack and ht leads.

you cannot fit your inlet manifolld to the 97 heads without a lot of cutting about on the inlet manifold.. the inlet ports are further apart and the bolt pattern different.

the ecu map is entirely different and it would be unsafe if you did solve the other issues.. which is unlikely.

You can use the bottom end with your 99 heads.. and if they are true 97asti heads are worth a reasonable premium..

you would need to get it mapped once the bottom end was in though as the compression is likely to be altered by use of the older block and the piston dish etc and headgasket thickness would need to be carefully choosen.

the ecu map in the 99 is also expecting a td04 turbo not a vf23..
