Default What are the symtoms of fuel cut???

Hi guys I would like to pick your brains if I may.

It has happend to me a few times now and I`m not sure if its fuel cut or something a bit more serious.

I dont push my car very often but sometimes when I do I get a sudden loss of power and then it comes back. it feels a bit like a missfire and only happens when change gear at high revs between 5 and 7K.

is this typical of fuel cut?

the only mods that I`m aware of on this are a Kakimoto cat back and a bailey piston DV26.

I dont currently have a boost guage so I cant tell if its overboosting.

Any help or advice would be welcomed with open arms.

With my car (93wrx) it would happen in the cold weather ,like we having now, so i cheated and got a later wrx ecu which had a better fuelling map and now mine is sorted.
Has it started since the cold spell?

To be honest i`m not sure how long this has been happening for as Ive only had her for about 4months and genrally dont go over 100K. but as I`m getting more used to the handling a power delivery I push her a little more harder each time I do.

I first noticed it befor xmas tho and it wasnt that cold then.

i went from U8 (92-early 94 wrx saloon) to z4 (late 94-96 wrx saloon).

think your ecu is one of the following 1C,V5,V9 or 3B

cheers, thats something to look into,(il check which i have this afternoon)

would you know which ecu would be an idea for me to try?-dependant on which ecu i have, i guess, as its a jap wagon with the td04, so saloon ecu's are out, are my choices limited?

I believe all those ecus are basically the same (similar situation with the early saloons as there were U8,W6 and 2C all covering the 92-94 cars).

I would guess from post 3 in this thread where you said you're not overboosting i would guess that inspection of your plugs/coilpacks would be a place to start.

il be checking the this afternoon, i no the coil packs were replaced by the previous owner a few thousand km ago, so fingers crossed some new plugs may smooth it out, it does seem to be weather related with mine, but its not an issue all the time.

thanks for your input blackwrx

I plan for a full service this month so I`ll have the plugs changed then. but in the meantime is there anything else I should look at and is this damaging to my engine with it continuing on like this?
