Default CLASSIC WRX TO STi SPEC - WHAT DO I NEED TO DO FOR THE CONVERSION ???

CLASSIC WRX TO STi SPEC - WHAT DO I NEED TO DO FOR THE CONVERSION ???

Hi all

I have a 1996 Subaru WRX Wagon Auto, which has the following spec:

1996 Import Subaru Impreza WRX 2.0 Turbo Station Wagon
Engine Type: EJ20
Model: GF8B5BP
Transmission: Automatic
Is still in km/h and restricted
Turbo TD04 430158

Mods (for now):

Hayward & Scott turbo back full stainless exhaust system
K&N Type cone filter

From what I've read up, the Model is found out by the first 2 letters, so in my case it's G=Impreza, F=Station Wagon, 8=2.0 Litre Motor.

I'm not 101% sure of the BHP figure as standard (I think that it should be 220 hp), maybe someone can throw there 10p's worth in lol

The ECU that is fitted states the following on top:

V5
22611 AB530
A18-000 Rj4 3X22
4 Pin connecter to ECU

I do have an Apexi AVCR (bran new in box unused), and also an Apexi Power FC and commander. I was thinking of fitting them both so I could up the boost carefully for a bit more oomf, map it, etc. untill I got right into this site and read a couple of the threads on here.

Apparently the Apexi WILL NOT WORK WITH AN AUTO Help - Advice !!!!

Looking at figures and stuff, the WRX supposedly starts with 220 hp, with the STi having 280 hp (STANDARD).

Does anyone know what I would need to turn it / convert it via add-ons to(almost) make into an STi spec ??

So the questions are (before fitting this lot......or not), what would be the best thing to do and where do I go from here? Should I fit the AVCR and the power FC and commander? Would the power FC need a remap if I decided to go that way?

So many questions and ideas........all I wanna do is get in and enjoy it

Cheers All,

Mark.

not sure about the apexi ecu not fitting an auto!
but to get it up to sti speed you will need:

de-cat
cat back exhault
pannel filter
up the boost to 1 bar
ecu( if it fits) to get the most out of the mods

with all this you will be up to standered sti, or matbe a little more if you have a good mapper!

Exhaust, filter, possably an ecu chip, if not then an after market ecu or a boost controller.
Being auto will slow you down a little, but a good mapper will point you in the right direction

Thanks for the reply scoobychippy :-)

I do already have a full Hayward & Scott turbo back (including decat) full stainless exhaust system fitted, and a good filter getting penty of cold air.

The Apexi ECU will plug in no problemo, just a straight swap. But, after reading stuff on here, I'm told that the Auto box messes things up with the Apexi unit being able to "talk" to the engine ???

I do hear that I would need the STi TMIC as well as the IC spray bottle, switches etc. I would also need the STi air inlet manifold also ???

Cheers for the input too TonyBurns - looks like you have said everything that scoobychippy has !!!!

I wonder if Jolly Green monster can help ??

Cheers !!!

you will not need the sti inlet manifold as its the same as yours just red!!!!!!!
your intercooler will be fine for 280bhp as im running just over with stock intercooler!
