Question Tuning help needed

Hi

I currently have an 02 WRX Bug eye and am wanting to get more power out of it. I am hoping for between 260 - 300 bhp, more if possible ?

Can you tell me what the best way of doing this is, without spending thousands. I have about 800 budget........

Or should I just get it 'chipped'? If so - does anyone know where is best for this? I am based in West Yorkshire, but willing to travel ( within reason ).

All help much appreciated.

Chris.

It will be tight on £800, but I would go for Oil change, PF7B plugs, “free flow” panel air filter, exhaust back box, mid section and if you can afford to it decat/down and uppipe, then remap. This should give you 270-285 bhp and a different feeling car to drive!

Are you planning on doing the mechanical work yourself?

If so, you can pick up second hand items from the for sale section and / or ebay and do it cheaper that way.

800 still isn't much of a budget, though, as 650 will be taken up by the first remap alone (usually about 300 for a remap after this), leaving you with only 150 quid for the other stuff.

Is your car completely standard at the moment?

Car is standard bar a performance decat exhaust which was already on the car.

I aint too fussed about changing loads of bits and bobs on it.

I would be happy with just a remap taking it to 260+ bhp..........? for the time being anyways lol.

Ah, if you've already got a decat exhaust, you're well on your way already

I'd start off by having a look at the up-pipe and see if that's decatted as well. If it's a turbo back exhaust you have, you'll have a cat in the up-pipe which can fall to pieces and damage your turbo if you start turning things up a bit. You should be able to get one of these second hand for about 40-50 quid or about double that for a brand new item.

If you do change your up-pipe, you'll need to replace the sensor that sits in the up-pipe with a 2.2k ohm resistor, as otherwise the ECU will throw a check engine light. I cut my sensor lead and soldered on a resistor instead, but there's doubtless other ways to do it. Maplin will sell you the required resistor for about 30p (at a guess).

After that, I'd take it to the mappers and then I'd hoon about and enjoy the car (If I could do things again, if it was my money etc etc )
