Default Dump Valve help.

Hi

I quite new to this impreza modifying and I am farily clueless but love my scooby! and want to increase the power.

I have a y reg bug eye wrx, totally standard except for back box. I would like a dump valve fitted but I dont know where to start.

I believe I will need the car re-mapping, is there any advise you can give me on where I should take the car for the work? and the best Dump valve to go for (want one thats fairly lound)?. Also what else would I need to have done for the dump valve to be fitted.

Thanks Claire

Well firstly welcome Scoobynet, and secondly, Nooooo!!! You'll see that dump valves aren't very popular really. If you REALLY have to, have to have one, there are several always for sale in the Scoobynet market place. They're a straight bolt on replacement, just look at the front right edge of your intercooler and get something that has the same base....

Full De-cat and remap would be what I'd do 1st....

Depends how much you want to spend really.

Well if an economical raise in bhp is what you're after, a dump valve won't help, it just makes a silly sound (IMHO - other love 'em).

The easiest thing to start with is getting air in and out more easily. A good panel filter and better intercooler hose (the one under it) at the front, and a decent 2.5" diameter exhaust system. Add the price of a remap (with engine control unit (ECU) license) and you should see some worthwhile gains and a much better sound. If you just want to enhance the 'burble' I can recommend something like a Scoobysport backbox.

Full de-cat exhaust, induction kit and a walbro fuel pump, followed quickly by a re-map otherwise things could go wrong. That would be my first point of call anyway. Like NKG said, a bov is not everyones cup of tea (its just a noise thing) and does nothing for you bhp, just costs a lot of cash for a branded one like sard, hks, forge, blitz etc. If you like the noise then go for it though mate

Thanks for the advise, I am so undecided. Will have a think about it. One thing that I was worried about was what other work I would need to have a dump valve fitted but sounds like I can get one fitted without any further works. Your advise has got me thinking about other mods I can do to increase the bhp, have ordered a k&n panel filter already.

Thanks all for the advise.

Yes as said best mods are decat, full system, panel filter and remap, this will give you plenty of power for now until your ready to go further, i have a dump valve and like it but will be changing to a waste gate soon with the mods i have planned but in my opinion a dump valve is simply a noise, it has no power gains at all and some can actually cause more problems than gain. hope this helps you out.

Thanks Scooby Will, my concern is the problems it may cause, I will think about it some more before I decide.

Claire - Welcome to SN.

You already have a perfectly good dump valve on the car!

As above, most people start with exhaust filter and remap mods.

Speak to David at APi for advice on mods that actually work together and produce decent increases for your dosh!
