Default Headbolt issue.

Well my car is on the verge of being done, the mechanic was just at that stage of bolting the heads back on and dropping the engine back in the bay. Only thing is he phoned me saying that at least two of the head bolt threads in the block are shot, he said he couldn't even get past the first stage of torquing them up.

What are my options here, ive already spent a fortune on the car and im running out of cash !

not realy for headbolts u need to drill out 2mm bigger than the hole and re tap and the thread the hole and insert a threaded brass sleve into the hole and then tap the inside of that and then u have good threads agen

Ive had the same problem, fitted an ARP stud kit, which screws down all the way to the base of the threads. It's on a rally car running 2 bar of boost, and has been running with no problems at all. may be an option?

Oh i never knew this, so even if the threads are gonners, this stud kit might be able to resurrect my block ?

If you dont mind, could you explain how they work ?

Thanks.

The head bolts don't go all the way to the bottom of the thread, as long as there is enough thread left below the std bolt depth the headstuds will screw into that, you need to check how far down the thread is knackered?

You can get some bigger studs but it does mean machining the block and the heads. Tha standard size is 11mm but you can get 12 and 14mm Head studs but they aren't cheap.

I had this but i now have a cdb to build into. The only way around it that was an option to me was rcm can machine it to take their larger studs but it wasn't cheap? Obviously the motor needs to be stripped?
