Default rebuild or replacement engine???

hi

i have a my98 terzo. needs a new engine do i replace it or have a rebuild. am in Leeds if anyone can recommend anywhere local. all help is very much appreciated.

whats wrong with the engine is it big ends as if it is i would imo replace engine i mean you would need a new crank.full gasket set bearings etc and that could cost as much as a second hand engine with 6 months warranty plus theres some good deals for engines at the mo.

I would personally have it rebuilt, as even if you bought another new (used engine) you could end up with the same issue a few thousands miles on.

Recondition engines are good also, most come with 6 monthd warrenty.

Can pick one up for just under 1k.

like beardy has said there are good recon engines all come with warranty plus a rebuild could uncover a lot more hidden problems and a lot more money.

Just don't use SMR ENGINES tend to spray everything and dispatch faulty engines....

I can confirm this.

In Nov 07 my bottom end started knocking, so I 'panicked' and wanted a cheap solutuion asap... Yes, you guessed it, I got an engine form SMR Their seller was MDKL at the time (now trading under prestige_partz on eBay)...

Now car is currently at Zen's for, unsurprisingly, HG replacement ... BUT Paul has now got this SMR alleged 22,000m engine apart and doesn't like waht he sees. Block is apparently rusty and badly scored (surprisingly, heads & valvetrain, pistons, rods, crank, mains and bigs all appear fine). Can't recall the exact detail, but it looks like SMR had cobbled this engine together in a kind of Frankenstein's Monster sort of way!

If only I had kept my head back then - oh well, at least now I can bite my bottom lip, pay up and get it sorted... Properly!

As API David says, the ol' painted 'new' engine trick/sales patter (lies) confidence trick is back in business in a big f**ckiin' way ... And I fell for it big time in 'my hour of need'

thanks guy's

i had it checked out (well lane turbo center) but they were wanting £3000 upwards for a re-build. he said i had damaged the piston rings. he called it piston sap or slap i can't remeber which. am sure he mentiond Detonation aswell. as you can c am not a very techincal. thanks for your help guy's.

Sounds like you've blown a ring on a piston... ..but you still haven't told us what actually happened to the car ....did it smoke? any bangs? what rpm and speed were you doing and in what gear etc etc.....

More details for us means more help for you, so stop witholding info and spit it out.....
