If I've been paying attention lol, there should be some grid-like (about 1cm square) cross-hatch casting all around the oil filter housing...

Can you see if you've got MLS haed gaskets/do they look okay from what you can see, etc? 'Cause if not, then now's the perfect time to remove the heads (and check if it's a CDB for sure lol), true up heads and block and replace old gaskets with the correect thickness steel ones...

As Joz said above i would definitely replace head gaskets as if they're composite you will more than likely be pulling the engine back out again to replace them. While it's out check it over.

Presumably... or possibly SCDB (semi-closed deck).

To identify a cdb the ONLY one that is certain is cross hatching on the oil filter housing, all of the rest are not certain.

If you're brave enough you can stick an index finger in the holes for the water Xover pipe and feel the underneath of the CDB. If it is open, your finger will go in further. There is just that odd moment of panic when you realise your finger could be stuck.

A semi closed is another matter I have not found a certain way yet other than all STi from bug eye on have it. But once the inlet manifold is off, it could be just about anything.

If someone knows for sure I'd be interested to hear.
