Default Tighten actuator - How? (To Stop Rattling)

Hi guys,

I have a rattle form the actuator on my TD04. How do I go about tightening it up so that I can stop the rattle? Is there a certain part that need to be tightened?

Previous Post Is Here...

Thanks in advance!

1. if you havn't done so already remove the top heatshield from the turbo
2. un-do the lock nut at the end of the actuaor rod near to were it connects to the turbo wastegate
3. remove the circlip (don't drop it) that connects the rod to the wastegate pin
4. lift the actuator rod off the wastegate pin
5. shorten the actuator rod 2-3 turns, or tight enough so that when at rest it 1/2 lines up on the wastegate pin.
6. give it a little tug to drop it on the pin
7. refit circlip
8. tighten locknut

The only adjustment that iam aware of is that of the wastegate arm/rod, easily spotted as it will be threaded, although iam unaware of the type you will have.

Hmm was this loose when you bought it or something or has this become loose over time??

It's just that if it's happened out of the blue then it could be a failing wastegate and may need to be replaced. Ideally you want to test the functionality of it using compressed air regulated at approx 1 bar.

Good Luck
