Hi guys, I have an MY98 UK turbo and am getting a very strong smell of petrol upon start up but can't find any leaks. Has anyone got any ideas as to what it could be

Yeah it seems to be only from a cold start and once warm it runs fine. It does seem to us alot of fuel though. Any idea how to sort out the overfuelling, ecu reset maybe?

might be worth changing the temp sensor sounds like its staying on cold start for too long which would tie up to the using more fuel as well, potentially not good.
temp sensor needs to be really knackered to give a fault code on ecu as well. think they are quite cheap to replace (£20 ish)
i would give that a try first assuming there are definatley no leaks of any kind.

Under the inlet manifold are the fuel rail pipes these are jointed together in 4 places by small pieces of rubber hose , i would suspect one of these are weaping , there are two on the drivers side under the air unlet pipe under the inlet manifold and two on the passengers side , i locted mine by swithching the ignition on and off to prime the system the using my sense of smell located the area and the spotted the very small leak . you can not access these pipes without removing inlet manifold , i did mine at christmas and replaced all 4 tho only one was leaking pipe cost £3 from local parts store and then 2 inlet manifold gaskets , its a common problem on subarus .
