Hi
As above a friend of mine has test driven a 2005 wrx with de cat , when he was there the guy told him that he has taken the bulb out of the dash for engine check light and that the de cat was the reason it was on in the first place, what do you guys think ,i have never heard of this before

Removing the cat means that the ecu sees it as "out of range", i.e. it's efficiency isn't as expected, it wouldn't be sat on the garage floor would it !
So the ecu throws a CEL, there are CEL-fixes out there.

taking the bulb out will be silly incase there is a future problem and you wont have the cel light coming on to warn you.
ive got an 03 wrx which i decated, and eventually got a remap which clear the cel warning for the exhaust/o2 readings
