Default Reaching 330/340BHP

Hi,
Im sorry, this has probably been asked a thousand times before.
I have an 02 plate WRX STI (see my scooby), with prodrive upgrade so apparently its approx 300bhp. Im wanting to up the power to 330/340 bhp (i gather it gets expensive to go higher)
I only use my car at weekends so i only do a few thouand miles a year.
I would b grateful if people could put forward a few ideas, including an approx price and any recommended companies/inivduals. Im located in cumbria.
Also, if anyone has a similar impreza with 330/340bhp could you let meknow approx 0-60
Any help on this would be much appeciated
Thanks in advance
Craig

I think simply simply a set of 550cc injectors and a remap at a suitable boost level of about 1.4-1.5bar will get you to 330-340bhp(?)

.

Hi there, I had my 02 STi running at 360 bhp. The spec's were APS 3" Exhaust with sports cat, Tubular headers, FMIC (not necessary but was planning ahead), uprated pump and GEMS ECU. I did not need to up the size of the injectors, I ran this for 4 years and had it run on a number of different Dyno's around the country with hardly any differences.

The 02 Sti runs 550 injectors as standard.

Hope this helps Steve

They're not cheap! Your best bet would be to get a set of flow matched jobs from Mark at Lateral Performance. They'll fit with no mods/hassle and each injector will flow at least circ 95% of each other. Problem is I think they are about £350-400 odd.

You could hold out and see if you can get a 2nd hand set on here - then send them off to be flow matched and ultrasonically cleaned, Big savings if you do it this way.

However, does the Bug STi have 440cc inj as an OEM fitment? If so, then you may be able to get that sort of horspower on those! They might be getting near their limits though .

Yes, a Walbro fuel pump is a good idea - it's new and has upped 255 litres/hour fuel rate, so peace of mind to mind to be had. Only about £80 and simple to swap over too.

A 3" system, panel filter, NGK 7 plugs, Walbro fuel pump and a remap will see you to the figures your looking for.
Cost wise, a grand for everything brand new.

0-60 around 4 secs. (with a good clutch)

My WRX is running 330bhp with a slipping clutch and theres not much can touch it.

with the prodrive pack it should already have the pump, only problem is if the ecu on sti bugeye prodrive is like wrx ppp then it has a board added inside, so I would say get a used std ecu then get the keys coded then get that one remapped and you should be around what you want.

No the Prodrive mod is just a software addition, so choose a mapper and open your wallet. Mine managed 340 bhp with a sports cat and an FMIC, planning ahead also !

P.S. A mapper can tell you if the Ecutek licence has been purchased by hooking up his laptop.

Nice Car Mate

When the prodrive pack was added, they done something with the ecu, suspension, and exhaust.
Im reading above i need a 3" exhaust, will this be covered by the prodrve exhaust?
I was looking on Jolly Green Giant whodoes ecutek for £550, but whats with the liscence your saying about? Does that cost more or something?
Did yo upgrade yor fuel pump aswell?

The PPP does have an uprated fuel pump - see this thread: https://www.scoobynet.com/drivetrain...-t5-001-a.html
It is not, however, a walbro 255 l/hour pump, if i recall correctly its about 197.

If you want to achieve 330 bhp, you should get away with just a remap (650 quid).

Hi Craig,

Thanks, but was un-useable that low !

She's just emerged from the bodyshop ! Seventh birthday treat !

The deal I got was a fre pump with fitting back in January 2007

When you use Ecutek software the first time, they require a licence fee, of approximately £250 + VAT, the mapper sorts this, so your first map will cost £550 + VAT. However, the bit I'm not sure of is whether yours has the licence paid as Prodrive did the work using Ecutek software.

Ideally you need to get an Ecutek mapper to check the ecu, as it's a nasty shock if you have to pay full price ! I had a TSL system, but changed to a 3" system to reach 400 bhp, after bolting on some more bits ! you should be fine with yours, at worst you may lose 10 bhp against a fully de-catted system.

At 330 bhp, mine felt utterly ballistic after standard, but two years later I have 390 bhp, and for the money, I'm not sure it's worth that much in the real world.... but it is fun !

HTH

dunx

You will need to purchase a new ecutek license. Although the PPP is ecutek, it´s locked.

You already have a sports cat with the STI PPP, so all you need is a software remap to reach 330. There are no additional boards etc added to the ECU - it´s purely software as pointed out above

Thanks for all the advice guys, i do apprciate it!
So to clarify, to obtain approx 330bhp i need to:
1 - Have 550's intectors - GOT
2 - A sports exhaust of some sort - GOT
3 - An uprated fuel pump (best to go for a wabro 255) - NEED £80
4 - NGK 7 Spark Plugs - Are the a must? or a recomendation (£40 a go??)
5 - A remap. Any local ones to cumbria? Id lik to use Jolly Green Giant as people recomend but its miles away
Just a quick one, if it doesnt have a licsence already would i pay £550+£250?
Cheers

...But is the 2nd part to the d/p a decat item? - this'll give you most gains.

3 - An uprated fuel pump (best to go for a wabro 255) - NEED £80
Good idea, yes.

4 - NGK 7 Spark Plugs - Are the a must? or a recomendation (£40 a go??)
Best to. Set of 4: £20-25 off aBay (brand new, individually boxed).

5 - A remap. Any local ones to cumbria? Id lik to use Jolly Green Giant as people recomend but its miles away
It's possible that JGM will be willing(?), but you'll have to pay his, not inconsiderable, fuel costs! (he hails from the other end of the country, Kent). Andy F. is in Scotland (E. Lothian, I think).

Just a quick one, if it doesnt have a licsence already would i pay £550+£250?
I think budget £550-650 INC. the licence. 'Only' £300-350 without
