Default Code 22 Help

Hey folks, got a cel and checked the codes on my 94 wrx. it showed up knock sensor, is there an underlying issue with this or is it just the sensor thats goosed??

It has poor petrol in it admittedly but it has not been driven. Would this cause the cel to come on or is it the sensor?

reset ecu fill up with the v power/tescos 99 ron and see if it does it again.

Admittedly not sure what you mean by poor petrol though.

I put 95 ron in it to get it home as the car was not meant to be on the road!

Did you rag it on this 95? If so the ECU may have retrded the ign as much as poss but may have still been detting. This is jsut a guess, but it may then throw the knock sensor CEL 22 as it became 'out of range'.

Do as mbwrx says i.e. run the 95 down to just below empty - say about 1/8th to 1/16th full (don't use boost and/or throw it hard around corners, though when running it down). Then put in about half a tank of V-Power (or fill up). Reset ECU properly by using the wires under the dash. Make sure CEL has gone off.

If CEL has disappeared, then go for a drive for at least 20 minutes, using WOT/full boost in 4th and 5th. BUT keep your eye (when safe to do so) on the CEL light! If it comes on - stop the on-boost driving immediately and coast back home. Check CEL code again.

The hooning will optimise the ign. adv., again (for optimum performance) and hopefully the CEL won't have come back on (with a code 22). If it does, then fair to assume that the knock sensor is indeed kaputt...

If it does come back, make sure you drive off boost until you get a new K.S. fitted. When fitted, do another reset, and all should be good from this point on...

code 22 knock sensor replace sensor i did mine last month when i got it off it was cracked not cheap £110 from dealers they are different on early cars v1-v2 are the same but v3-v4 on different as they are cheaper but DO NOT be tempted to save 20 quid or it can cost a few grand for a re-build hop this helps

oh yeah forgot say after fitting do full re-set with wires take it out for a blast use full boost in 4th 5th after i did this it felt like a different car pulls so much better made it worth every penny
