Hi All,
I have just sold my MR2 Rev3 Turbo
, and im thinking of buying a scooby.
There seems to be hundreds of different types and spec.
Basically im after a 2 door version, import.
Can anyone help me with what are the best types/versions to go for. Im on a budget so an older version 94-99 is what im looking for really.
Thanks in advanced

2-doors are called WRX Type R or WRX Type R STi Version III, IV, V or VI. (STi being better).
Some were V-Limited WRC-inspired limited editions, painted in a WRC-like Sonic Blue paint job, celeberating various WRC achievements of the time.
They were introduced in MY97 (v.3 STi) and for all Classic MY from then on, up till and inc. MY00.

cheers mate,
I guess im after a version iii or iv for around the 5k mark.
Can anyone tell me what sort of power these have, are there any problems with them, ie what to look out for?

280ps+ need to be run on 99RON fuel (maybe a dash of octane booster as well) or remapped for UK fuel the Type R 3/4 needs a replacement ecu as the standard ecu cannot be reflashed (at the mo).

Those little suckers have 225bhp (or is it 237!), don't they?!
My mate had a phase 1 UKDM 'GT' with the 158bhp NA motor. He had some 'interesting' moments in that car, shall we say...

They are 245bhp (revision 3), mine has modifications, increased boost and apexi ecu so she was well over 300bhp. I don think a Subura will beat it in a straight line (or anything else) but she quite a handful around the bends.
I have no problem running it on 99Ron fuel, but do i really need a differnet ECU?
What are they like?

Type R is the 2 door coupe, an RA is athe Rally Altered version, 4 door, no sound proofing, no electric windows, aircon, or other luxuries, unless specified at purchase. they also have close ratio gearboxes for rapid acceleration, I think they all came with DCCD (driver controlled centre differential)

Yeah okolatsis, the Type R (and Type RA lightweight) from MY97 v.3>on had the DCCD (driver controlled centre diff) as mentioned, so should suit your driving style! ![Big Grin](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
It has a thumbwheel electronic potentiometer by the handbrake that adjusts the centre diff to fully 'open' 35% f : 65% r, to fully 'locking' the two axles (this setting only to be used on very loose gravel/snow/straight-lining).
With the close ratio box/final drive too, it's definitely 'the car' for you.

Thanks for the replies.
I have been reading that the gear ratios are really sort, redline in 4th is 106mph, thanks for the link P1SWRT, nice motor.
Does anyone know what sort of 1/4 mile times they run.
Also what is the square metal device on the top of the engine, do they have top mounted intercooler?

Imprezas also don't like long high speed runs.
Another mod that is popular is a parallel fuel line as no 3 cylinder (nearest the turbo) gets a hotter than the others but still recieves the same amount of fuel (you will need a adjustable fuel pressure regulator as well)
