Default Is it worth having an AVCR?

As heading really. Car I'm getting has TEK3 software and I've always fancied one these things.

Are they reasonably easy to fit and what about setup?

Do they show boost pressure? I want to get some sort of boost gauge so either a stand alone gauge or I could use the AVCR.

Is the aif/fuel one worth getting too?

Ta

Edd with Ecutek on a classic, definately.

a) It'll rid you of that annoying emissions related boost cut feature
b) It'll allow the mapper to use in gear boost compensation (achieve higher boost and better rates of climb in each gear)
c) you can run 2 different boost levels and manipulate things like duty cycle on the fly
d) It shows boost pressure, solenoid duty throttle position etc... and looks nice!

So it needs to be set up by whoever maps the TEK3? Can I install it and then get it mapped at a later date or all at once?

The advert for the car says the mapping was by Bob Rawle so I guess thats my first port of call?

I don't want to end up spending loads because if the costs get too high I may as well save for the simtek.

The AVCR takes over boost control from the ECU so it needs to be set up at the same time as fitting

I bought mine for the "gear judge" feature for in gear boost compensation..... It also looks nice

The standard ecu struggles beyond 1.45 bar ( mine ! ), JGM suggested that I source one and re-map.

Saving as we speak !

HTH

P.S. mine is at 1.45 bar, but fancy 1.7 bar, then 2 bar on a 2.1 next year.

On the classic shaped impreza an AVCR makes a huge difference on boost once fitted and tweaked properly by a mapper

As the above say its a good and well worth it on a classic.
I was runing PFC but its simple boost controller was not upto the job when i wanted more boost.

I installed and mapped it myself. But you would want to remap the ecu if your running more boost for safety.

Edd, it needs to be set up by the mapper when you have the car mapped, you could fit it and tell it to run std boost, or turn it off and the car will run actuator pressure (circa .7bar IIRC) until mapped.

so basically boost control on the ecu is weak? therefore replacement with this makes sure the boost is stable till redline?

is it worth fitting an avcr to a newage 2.5? how much more difference is noticeable to have this ?

thnx

OEM boost control on the newage Subaru seems to be pretty good I have had a look at the Evo forums and they seem to have more issues with boost control.

I bought mine as I've got quite a lot of mods and wanted to sort the boost for best performance depending on what gear I was in (particularly the lower gears). My Bugeye ECU sets the boost without regard to the gear but the AVCR can do this

I wouldn't see any need to fit one to your car as the OEM ECU if correctly mapped would be just as good
