Default Running without a BOV...can I do it?

I'm in the process of fitting my FMIC (nearly done), but the BOV I ordered hasn't arrived yet.

My wife's Micra decided to chew a piston yesterday, so we are currently car-less and this will be a problem getting her to work on Monday. I can't reuse the standard BOV as the fitting/flange is completely incompatible.

Is there any way I can run the Impreza without a BOV if I block the pipe on the intercooler that goes to the BOV as well as the one from the turbo (and just drive off-boost) or leave one 'open'?

Apologies for such a daft question, but I'm looking for options that don't involve using taxis until my BOV arrives!

Yeah, a few people run without a dv, just block the pipes off till your new one arrives.

I have no dump valve, try it, you may like the sound you get.

I want to do the same but I've read on here that the VF series turbos can't cope without a DV whereas the TD series can.

Is this right?

Is the noise of no dump valve better than having a dump valve ?

ive got a td05 with a hks sqqv blah blah dump valve, wondering which sound is better ?

is it just a case of blanking off the pipe going to the d/v ? MY95

sorry to hijack

You get the "chattering" sound when you lift off the loud pedal. I prefer it to having a dump valve.

Did you just take it off or did you have it mapped for it?

i have heard that too about the vf range no favouring no dumpvlave.

you will be fine for a for a few days mate. you may like it but check with a tuner such as API , SUBARU4YOU or similar and see what they say over the vf range and no valve. on my old uk turbo i ran with no valve for a few months but ended up putting a sti re-circ on.

Going to API on Monday but feel a bit silly saying "I want to take the dump valve off because I'll feel that little bit more like Petter Solberg on the way home."
