Default Cheapest ECU/Map Combo

Hi All,

As some of you will know, im in the middle of building a budget track car.

Im now looking into a remap, and as the 93 wrx import ecu cannot be remaped, i will have to get a new ecu (someone correct me if im wrong)

What ecu would people reccomend, and i take it any mapper will be able to map this once the ecu is fitted?

If there is any mappers out there who wants some advertising on the car, i can do so for discount/free ecu and map... maybe your intrested Harvey

Cheers

James

www.jollygreenmonster.co.uk lists all the most popular ecus avaliable (your car can have the ESL daughterboard soldered onto it leaving you a standard looking ecu).
Enduring Solutions Limited for more info on the board.

The ESL live route will probably be the most cost effective, but it depends on what you want from the ECU. If you are quite happy with the features of your current ECU and just want a remap for all your mods, this is the way to go from a cost effective POV

Brand new/fitted/mapped, the ESL Live daughter board will be the cheapest option for a MY93-96 car. And the cheapest/most convenient mapper is, the handily travelling lol, Jolly Green Monster.

If not worried about having to have a NEW ECU, then I suggest a 2nd hand Apexi PFC (about £200-250 without Commander; £250-350 with), like what I did. You can always get the Commander at a later date, like I did too. Once again JGM for the mapping.

NOTE: If you do get the brand new ESL, then make sure you get their recently launched MY93-96 MAFless version!!! ... Which is very much a good thing, as it doesn't need to read from the MAF, so you wouldn't have to worry about potential MAF failure when hooning = possible detted-to-death motor.

Indeed, if its for a track car, then I'd seriously consider the MAFless ESL Live...

Of course for c.400 quid more than the ESL - dependent on how much the new MAFless one costs(?) - you could get the feature-laden Simtek! It has dual maps and is MAFless too! (amongst other stuff). But, at the moment, it doesn't pull timing like the ESL can. It just flashes a 'detting' CEL (like the PFC does).

You basically remove the existing OEM PCB and replace with the ESL (or Simtek) one i.e. the ECU's casing houses it... then just screw the lid back on and connect the 4-plug harness.

i should really open the case of my ecu up, as it may have a different chip

I did notice when i had the ECU out that some wires had been stripped and taped back up for some reason, someone had something else connected to it.

Yes. before doing anything, do that. You never know what's in there. When you do, post up a pic and we'll be able to tell you if it's std or not, etc...

If thats on the loom that plugs into the ECU then it could have had an AFR meter there, or an electronic boost controller etc. Also a chance it may have a ESL/scoobyECU already...

if it is the same standard of offering as the megaskirt I bought to use on a skyline GTST (suppose to plug straight in) which didnt even have the right number of injector drivers and is now in my storage, stored under "epic fail" then I would advice them not to buy too much stock. Mind you as it came from Mtech and they stopped returning my emails and phone calls when I tried to explain that ideally we wanted to inject fuel into all cylinders and ignite it rather then ignore two of them, therefore please advice them to buy lots..

i have to admit customer care isnt great from them as ive been waiting since before xmas but im in no hurry! It should use all std sensors which is a first for megasquirt/impreza so we'll see.My bro uses v.2 on his 240z with holset turbo and it works well but with its all self taught as there isnt much tech backup with megasquirt.

that's what they said about the GTST.. just need to change this crank wheel and then wire it all in.. uses standard sensors etc.. it doesn't even make a nice paper weight
