I have a 2006 STI spec D, I have noticed a large amount of oil in the expansion tank - which would suggest the head gasket has blown. It is not overheating but the car is almost out of warranty - do you have any ideas what might be the cause.

Not out of warranty? get it booked in ASAP!!
If it is just in the expansion tank and not in the main header tank, then it could well be as dj said...

Picked my car up yesterday from the dealer it turned out that it was a cracked head causing the oil in the expansion tank luckily it was under warranty and they replaced both heads, not sure why this has happened I have always warmed it up properly and let it idle before switch off, it has only covered 24000 miles & has had 5 services in this time.
